THE PAST

HONORING THE ANCIENT JAPANESE RITUAL OF REBIRTH

In 2010, we set out on a journey to northern Japan, formally known as the Dewa province, to find a lost family remedy for various skin conditions.

Inspired by the ancient story of Prince Hachiko and his legendary path toward rebirth, we retraced his steps through the Three Dewa Mountains in search of our own lost secret.

The journey began with a departure from the present world at Mt Haguro…

Reunited with the past at Mt Gassan…

And arrived at its future on the heights of Mt Yudono.

This time-honored path led us to the discovery of the Dewa Blend – the meticulous preparation and unique preservation method that transforms simple plants to maximize their purifying qualities.

THE PRESENT

AN HOLISTIC APPROACH TO WELLBEING

Informed with a wealth of wisdom and history, and drawing inspiration from our sacred journey, work began at home to create the signature...

Awakening The Dewa Blend
A synthesis of three sustainably sourced elements prized in the Dewa region, each key ingredient— Wakame, Rice and Pine— is carefully prepared according to traditional wisdom and methods.

WAKAME
A rich source of essential minerals and a truly sustainable future-ingredient, this species of kelp regenerates and leaves the skin plump and perfectly hydrated.

RICE
Rich in amino acids, potent rice ferment softens the skin and evens out skin tone and texture, leaving a soft and smooth surface.

PINE
A potent natural antioxidant, pine reverses the signs of damage from free radicals and environmental stressors on the skin.

Fourteen years later, with this transformative elixir at its heart, the inaugural collection from Abé & Mason is ready to be revealed…

THE FUTURE

LEADING A SUSTAINABLE, CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Through our journey, we learned that every living organism there was sacred, and it was prohibited to even engage a single plant without paying proper regards. Every ingredient is sacred and must be well utilized, while honoring its natural state.

This has been translated to our strict zero-waste policy and inspired us to be mindful of how we procure and dispose of products.

Future developments include:
• A move to more locally produced components.

• A phase out period of petroleum-based plastic, replaced with natural alternatives.

• A refill program for subsequent purchases.

• Implement a recycling program.

It is encouraging to see the growing movement by individuals and industries to end polluting practices. Abé & Mason is proudly committed to this cause.
